Description
Nelo Teixeira was born in 1975 in Angola, in the province of Zaire, in Ambrizete. At UNAP - União dos Artistas Plásticos Angolanos (Union of Angolan Visual Artists) he underwent training in both painting and sculpture, while acquiring skills in carpentry and set design. With a diverse body of work, he prominently incorporates colour into his pieces, which span a range of scales. He maintains a sort of personal observatory, keenly attuned to the evolution of contemporary society and the inherent shifts in social circles. He says: "I want my work to resonate like B.B. King's guitar".

With a diverse body of work and training in carpentry, through family connections, as well as in set design, having engaged with the film and theatre industry, Nelo Teixeira is concerned with the evolution of societies. He emphasises the collection of contemporary waste, a theme that gave rise to "O Poder do Homem" (The Power of Man).

Biography
1974 – Zaire, Angola
Visual Artist – Sculpture, Installation and Painting
He learned Carpentry from relatives, specialising in this field, as well as in Set Design. In this context, he has regularly collaborated with the theatre and film industries in the creation of sets, namely for: "Na Cidade Vazia" (In the Empty City), "O Herói" (The Hero), "Ponto de Encontro" (Meeting Point), "As Bondosas" (Kind Women). Thanks to these close contacts with painters and other creatives, he later decided to pursue a formal education in the arts and become a visual artist. To achieve this, he participated in painting and sculpture workshops at UNAP - União Nacional dos Artistas Plásticos (National Union of Plastic Artists) in Angola in 1993.
He also represented Angola at the 2015 edition of the Venice Biennial.
He has been showcasing his work regularly since 2000 in his native Angola, in Portugal, and in Italy - Venice and Milan - in both individual and collective exhibitions. We should highlight his exhibitions at the Natural History Museum in Luanda, at the Banco Económico Gallery, also in Luanda, and at Not a Museum in Lisbon.
