Description
Samuel Muankongue was born in Mueda, in 1974, and his career as a sculptor is undeniably influenced by the path undertaken by his mother, Reinata Sadimba: it certainly contaminated and guided him, but it was also by defying it that he pursued a unique path. In fact, despite the anamorphoses identifiable in his works that depict affinities, in other words, relationships established between the inner and outer worlds, Samuel can be considered a naturalist. On the other hand, Samuel Muankongue's preference for representations of figures in pairs or groups is noticeable, emphasising dialogues, relationships, and the subtle soul transfusions woven among living beings: he accomplishes this organically and naturally, with formal flair and complete evenness, as if approaching these individuals with the utmost care.
Samuel Muankongue sculpts on a small scale and incorporates certain marks that lend identity and uniqueness to his works: anamorphosis, and the way he dresses his figures. Occasionally, there are instances where he shows us giant hands, disproportionate to the rest of the body, conveying the intensity of pressing emotions, or even heads that are more prominent than the body, representing the actual life of the characters he carefully sculpts. Samuel Muankongue has therefore created a heart of his own, both as an artist and an observer.

The Ujamaa development ideology is founded on the principle that "a person becomes a person through the community". In this representation, Samuel invites us to reflect on the burden that the common good can place on individuals.

On this occasion, Samuel Muankongue sculpted on an unusual scale compared to what we are used to, boldly and effortlessly translating into a large and seemingly real scale a radically distinctive expression. Furthermore, "Gémeas Inseparáveis" (Inseparable Twins) seems to portray solar entities.

Biography
1974 – Mueda, Mozambique
Visual Artist – Ceramic Sculpture
The son of Martins Muankongue and the iconic Reinata Sadimba, Samuel had a nomadic childhood, frequently travelling abroad with his mother to attend to all sorts of commitments.
At the tender age of six, Samuel went with Reinata to Tanzania, where he completed the third grade. In 1992, he returned to Maputo, Mozambique, where he started his own business.
Samuel always had a passion for clay, but it was after numerous solo and group exhibitions, both national and international, that the artist established himself in the world of visual arts and realised that he could earn a living from his work.
During his stay in Portugal, Samuel was amazed to see other sculptors working with clay, an experience that inspired and influenced him to implement new techniques in his craft, shaping him into the artist he is today.
