Let's celebrate Sculpture.
The embodiment of inner worlds.
The emotions embodied in marble and clay, materialized into form.
The fantastical summoned to reveal reality.
Let's celebrate gatherings.
Hemispheres turned upside down.
Entities born when language flows through the hands.
Let's celebrate others, for in doing so, we sculpt ourselves.
Reinata
Widely recognized as the foremost contemporary ceramicist on the African continent, Reinata Sadimba draws inspiration from the folk tradition of the Makonde ethnic group. She skilfully crafts emotionally nuanced objects that seamlessly blend individuality with a sense of community: in her pieces, satire appropriates preservation, criticism coexists with historical exaltation, and reflection disguises itself in ritualism.
It is precisely her deep immersion in Makonde aesthetic and cultural conventions that empowers her meticulous subversion. The formal surrealism of her creations is the embodiment of the fantastical coursing through her veins, skin, and interpretation.
Paulo
Paulo Neves is one of the most respected Portuguese sculptors and, simultaneously, one of the most significant figures in public art in Portugal. Despite such a dual distinction being remarkably rare, it can be easily explained by the universal appeal of his creations. Paulo Neves has the unique ability to infuse the influence of modern European languages with a naturalistic quality.
While his hands liberate minimalism from coldness, his inventiveness enables the organic forms that inspire him to detach from their origin. His artistic language is so concise that it seems to be an innate expression - the unmistakable mark of an artist who dedicated a lifetime to its mastery.
