The 5th edition of AFRICAN WEEK took place between 23 and 29 May 2023 in Covilhã. This is an annual gathering that has been held since 2019, when the city of Guarda hosted its first edition. This year's event focused on the themes "Portuguese-speaking World" and "Heritage" aligning with Covilhã's Action Plan as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, bringing together: designers, models, chefs, artists, and writers of African origin.

AFRICAN WEEK 2023 was jointly organised by the Municipality of Covilhã, the Mozambican entities QuaQua Design and AKINO, and the National Institute for Cultural and Creative Industries (INIC). The event received support from local companies, established a partnership with the University of Beira Interior (UBI), and was held under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic.

It featured exhibitions, concerts, literary sessions, gatherings, film screenings, workshops, and food tasting sessions. On the last day, 29 May, at 6pm, the 3rd literary session was held in the Noble Hall of the City Hall, under the theme: Circulation of Books and Cultural Assets in the CPLP, with Ricardo Salgueiro present as Guest Speaker. Accompanied by Cristina Costa Vieira - lecturer and researcher at UBI's Department of Arts - in a session moderated by José Carlos Venâncio - Retired Full Professor at UBI, Ricardo Salgueiro presented MANOEUVRE, tracing its history back to its foundation in 2021.
