MANOEUVRE is participating in the 5th Gaia International Art Biennial 2023, representing Africa as the Guest Continent and showcasing its contemporary art. The Biennial has been open since 8 April and will continue until 8 July. It serves as a platform for the MANOEUVRE movement to promote African art, highlighting its diversity and intrinsic expressiveness.
Occupying a considerable area in one of the three pavilions at Quinta de Fiação in Lever, MANOEUVRE has curated a distinctive exhibition featuring numerous artworks on display in Pavilion A. The building's inherent character as a prime example of industrial archaeology has given rise to two distinct situations from the outset: on one hand, it was essential to respect some of its elements; on the other hand, a deliberate counterpoint was necessary. The objective was to establish an area that harmonised with the surrounding space without being overshadowed by it, thereby crafting an exhibition with its distinct identity.
We are showcasing artists from Mozambique - Malangatana, Alberto Chissano, Simbraz, Kheto Lualuali, Lulu Maparangue, Reinata Sadimba, Samuel Muankongue, Gonçalo Mabunda, Butcheca, Mapfara, Nino Trindade; from Angola - Nelo Teixeira, Lino Damião, Xesko; from Cape Verde - Manuel Figueira. Visitors have the opportunity to explore drawings, sculptures - whether crafted from wood or clay—and paintings, each with its own strong personal traits and distinctive marks.
Visit us at the 5th Gaia International Art Biennial 2023 until 8 July, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 2.30 pm and 7.00 pm.
