The "Os Dedos na Lua e a Cabeça na Terra" (Fingers on the Moon and Head on the Earth) exhibition by the sculptor Mapfara opened on 12 May at the MANOEUVRE Gallery. Mapfara welcomes us at the entrance to the Gallery with a smile, as is his customary demeanour: smiling - that's how he introduces us to his boundless world of sculptures. But it's a World that he shares with us. In fact, for Mapfara, a work of art is truly complete when it is seen by someone, as the artist's creation finds fulfilment in the gaze of an observer.
His fingers are immersed in the Moon, fuelled by his ability to dream—the World and its forms. Yet, his head remains firmly on Earth, unwaveringly advocating for all beings and things, bridging the high and the low, the small and the large, without excluding any differences. His sculptures, therefore, have solid foundations, even as they undergo metamorphoses: a sign that the Earth, from which they are crafted, will support them. They also convey fundamental gazes and faces, as if realising that each being, each person, each thing, is essentially a multitude, so Mapfara advocates for the interconnectedness that shapes the World.
On this occasion, you have the opportunity to view Mapfara's latest sculptures. Don't miss out: until 19 May!
