The "Reinata Com Vida Samuel" (Reinata Invites Samuel) exhibition opened on 21 April at the MANOEUVRE Gallery.

The inviting expressions of Reinata and Samuel, facing each other at the entrance to the gallery, beckon us to delve into a movement encapsulated by a spiral composed entirely of sculptures. Two individuals, a shared embodiment: "Ujama" - by Reinata Sadimba and "Familiaridade" (Familiarity) - by Samuel Muankongue. "Ujamaa" means "extended family", encompassing both the concept of brotherhood and a collaborative economy: and, indeed, the two sculptures convey, with variations reflecting the artists' personal marks, the manner in which humanity intertwines. While 'Familiaridade' unfolds and expands around a trunk, drawing a parallel with trees and their role in sustainability; Ujama, while following the same upward direction, is topped by a pot, serving as a strong symbol of a sense of community.

Reinata Sadimba and Samuel Muankongue share familial bonds as mother and son, along with an unequivocal inventiveness expressed through clay. On this occasion, you have the opportunity to admire 21 recent works that not only affirm their status as unique artists but also indicate potential future directions. Indeed, when considering the works already created in Portugal in 2023, there appears to be a dual influence: as if Reinata's and Samuel's gestures influence each other twice, without compromising their individual artistic identities.

Open to the public since 30 April 2022, the MANOEUVRE Gallery will be showcasing the Mozambican artists who make up its core group and are currently in residence in the city of Matosinhos in the upcoming months. This programme accompanies MANOEUVRE's participation in the 5th Gaia International Art Biennial, where Africa is the Guest Continent.
